C.I. Construction, LLC is Hiring a Financial Controller Near Alexandria, MN

Overview:

Currently, we are seeking a Controller to add to our team. Given the importance this role plays in our company we feel strongly the ideal candidate will have the leadership skills to ensure they are a champion of our company’s culture both internally and externally.

This individual will be a direct report to the CEO and will have two direct reports underneath them on the accounting staff. Given the Controller oversees all accounting and fiscal aspects of our company you will work closely with other department heads including the Director of Project Management and Director of Field Operations to collaborate on several cross-department workflows.

Experience in the construction industry, Sage 300, and Procore is preferred but not required.

This position will be based out of our office in Alexandria, MN.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Management

o Work with the CEO and ownership to create and manage operating budgets tied to strategic and sales plans, quarterly monitoring expenses against budget.

o Track budget variances and assist Project Managers in managing project budgets for accuracy.

o Oversee payroll processing, ensuring compliance with tax and benefits reporting.

o Maintain zero instances of timecard fraud and manage payroll processing timelines effectively.

o Manage ongoing cash flow projections and billing processes to improve net days sales outstanding (DSO) and cash flow annually.

o Develop strategies to efficiently handle receivables and payment issues.

o Deliver accurate and timely financial reports and forecasts, ensuring reconciliation of all financial documents.

o Review financial performance monthly for completeness and accuracy.

o Assess and adjust insurance coverage annually with executive oversight.

o Maintain solid relationships with insurance providers and evaluate financial stability of customers.

o Work with the CEO and ownership to sustain positive relationships with financial service providers and develop backup connections.

o Stay informed of developments affecting banking and bonding capabilities.

Strategic Planning and Communication

o Collaborate with the executive team to set long-term goals and direct major financial functions.

o Keep leadership well-informed on financial issues; prepare and present detailed financial analyses regularly.

o Utilize visual tools to aid in financial data comprehension and project forecasting accuracy.

Supervision and Leadership

o Champion the company’s values and culture.

o Lead and develop the accounting team, providing training and regular 1 on 1s with direct reports.

o Participate in company’s Leadership Team.

o Foster strong internal and external relationships for a performance-driven culture.

o Provide financial training to non-financial managers, emphasizing understanding and accurate forecasting of job costs and cash flow.

Process Compliance

o Ensure consistent use and outcomes of SAGE accounting software, measuring process compliance regularly.

o Develop and maintain systems for effective financial data access and use in project management.

Tax Planning and Reporting

o Work with outside CPA team to identify annual tax planning opportunities and ensure compliance with all tax filing and deposit deadlines.

o Collaborate with advisors to formulate and implement tax savings strategies.

Experience

  • 5 years of relevant experience in the construction industry is required.
  • A valid CPA CMA or other related accounting designation is preferred.
  • Experience with Sage 300 (Timberline) or Procore is preferred.
  • Degree in Accounting required.
  • Good sense of humor preferred.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $85,000.00 - $105,000.00 per year
